10th Tour de Gravelly

Bobby Perez of West Yellowstone wins the 10th annual Tour de Gravelly (The Beast) in a time of 4:40:23. Mr. Perez holds the GYAS Tour record for the shorter course, The Animal, set two years ago.

"The Beast" is a 60.7-mile gravel course that tests cyclists both physically and mentally. Upon dismount in the Ruby Valley, after crossing the Gravelly Range, cyclists will have logged a net elevation gain of nearly 1,200 feet. The 7,634 feet of ascent is front-loaded, making for a super fast finish. Bobby actually passed Co-race Director Kevin Palmer in his F-150 on the downhill; Kevin had to subsequently overtake Bobby on the flats to be at the finish and mark his official time. "Bobby was flying down the mountain. It was super impressive. I wasn't the only pickup truck in his way. He might have shaved some additional seconds," claims Kevin Palmer.
